Agentic RPA: Use natural language to build adaptable, versatile, and resilient robotic tasks Version: 26.10 Introducing Agentic RPA: use natural language to automate interactions with any application visible on screen, from SAP and Mainframe terminals to legacy desktop software, and web browsers. Define your goal in plain language and the action autonomously navigates, clicks, types, and reads until the objective is achieved. Unlike traditional RPA actions, agentic automation doesn't need you to plan and configure each step. It captures the screen, interprets what it sees, and decides the next best move to meet the goal described in your natural language prompt. And when a dialog moves, a button changes label, or an unexpected pop-up appears, the action adapts in real time—no reconfiguration needed. Appian MCP Server Control which record types are available to analytics and AI (also available for Appian 26.6 and 26.9) Version: 26.10 The Appian MCP Server surfaces only record types you explicitly publish for analytics and AI. To reflect this expanded scope, we've renamed the "Show in Data Catalog" setting to Publish for Analytics & AI across Process HQ and the record type. Enabling this setting provides immediate access to your data in Process HQ datasets, powers queries through the Appian MCP Server, and allows record types to be used in the data fabric chatbot. Any record types previously shown in the Data Catalog carry forward automatically, so you can govern your AI-ready data with zero extra setup. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Easily build Process HQ reports with the Appian MCP Server Version: 26.10 You can now use the Appian MCP Server to build reports directly from datasets in Process HQ. To reflect these expanded capabilities, we've renamed the Query Business Processes tool collection to Analyze Business Processes. Now, you can seamlessly analyze workflows and generate rich reports in a snap, empowering you to uncover actionable operational insights faster than ever. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close AI agents A more user-friendly chat experience Version: 26.10 Deliver intuitive conversational AI experiences in your applications with automatic next steps. The agent chat component now automatically displays clear next steps as clickable buttons right beneath each response, empowering your users to act in a single click instead of typing out a reply. To make conversations feel even more natural, agents explain their actions in plain business language instead of technical design object names. Plus, with the new showReasoning parameter, you can easily control whether the agent's step-by-step reasoning appears in the chat—giving you total flexibility to tailor a clean, polished experience for your users. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Find the exact AI agent run you need Version: 26.10 When you test an AI agent with different inputs, new Input and Output columns on the Monitor tab now show what actually changed. The new columns display each run's unique values, so you can tell your AI agent runs apart at a glance. Pair that with the ability to search across those values and debugging your AI agents becomes quick and intuitive. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close AI skills Bring your own OCR provider for document extraction Version: 26.10 You now have more control over how your AI skills extract document data. In the Admin Console, you can choose your organization's preferred optical character recognition (OCR) provider: Amazon Textract, Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence, or Google Cloud Document AI. Once configured, your selected provider is automatically used in DocCenter, Advanced IDP Tools AI skill and document-based generative AI skills. This flexibility allows you to route document OCR through your organization's pre-approved cloud provider and extend extraction to additional languages and regions. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Cut AI action costs with automatic prompt caching for AI skills Version: 26.10 Process high volumes of documents without watching your AI action costs climb. Now, generative AI skills cache the static parts of your prompt after the first execution and reuse them on repeated runs, so each execution only reprocesses what's new. This all happens automatically, with no configuration required. Pinpoint the orientation of every line Version: 26.10 The Advanced IDP Tools AI skill now tells you how each page in a document is oriented. A new Page Metadata output includes an orientation angle of 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees, derived from the document's underlying geometry. Instead of assuming a whole document uses the same orientation, downstream systems can now correct each page on its own. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Bring Sonnet 5 and Haiku 5.5 to your AI skills Version: 26.10 Claude Sonnet 5 and Haiku 5.5 are now available for use in your generative AI skills. RPA Increased scale to keep your largest robotic automations highly available Version: 26.10 Appian RPA High Availability (HA) now officially supports custom topologies of 4 or more nodes. Designed for enterprise customers managing massive robotic workloads, you can deploy 6, 9, or even 12-node clusters. This gives mission-critical RPA processes stronger stability, load balancing, and failover integrity as automation volume grows. Simplify robotic task logic and error handling with Switch and Try-Catch actions Version: 26.10 We've added two new low-code actions to the RPA Designer to help you build simpler workflows and handle exceptions confidently. Instead of chaining multiple conditional actions, you can now use Switch to route task execution across several conditions from a single expression. The Switch action routes on a matched value rather than a Boolean result. With Try-Catch, you can add structured exception handling to isolate fragile actions and recover from errors without stopping the run. Use Try-Catch when a robotic task should recover from a predictable failure instead of ending the whole task. When used with the Run Agentic RPA action, Switch and Try/Catch also empower you to build flexible agentic error handling into your robotic tasks to keep them on track when conditions change. Together, these two new actions reduce execution time, improve readability, and bring Appian RPA control flow and error handling closer to industry-standard practices. Attach to running browsers and call processes synchronously Version: 26.10 Robotic tasks can now attach directly to browser windows already open on the host machine. With the new Attach to Browser action, your robots can join browser workflows mid-stream without re-launching the browser or repeating prior navigation and authentication steps. The browser stays open when the robotic task finishes, ready for whatever comes next. Robotic tasks can also run process models synchronously in the Start Process action for seamless, in-progress data updates. This option streamlines the design and maintenance process and ensures your complex, multi-step automations run reliably and faster from start to finish. DocCenter DocCenter 4.5 was released on October 9, 2026 and requires Appian 26.9 or later. For details on new capabilities like document redaction, see What's New with DocCenter. Data fabric Perform exact calculations with precise decimals Version: 26.10 Introducing Number (Decimal Precise), a new data type that stores decimals with exact, arbitrary precision for all your financial and high-precision calculations. This data type works effortlessly across record fields, process variables, rule inputs, and expressions. To collect or display precise decimals, use the new Decimal component, or easily convert values using a!toDecimal(). When you enter a decimal in an expression, it's a Number (Decimal Precise) value by default. This means all of your new expressions deliver accurate results out of the box, without any extra setup. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Seamlessly connect to your Databricks lakehouse Version: 26.10 We've added native support for Databricks, allowing you to put the data in your lakehouse to work within mission-critical business applications. To get started, create a Databricks connected system to access data across your Unity Catalog. From there, you can quickly build a record type that connects directly to your enterprise data in Databricks. This unlocks instant access to your largest datasets alongside powerful features like relationships, record-level security, and custom record fields—all with or without syncing your data. With this new connection option, you can quickly build secure, unified applications on top of your existing SQL Server architecture. Add more fields to record types Version: 26.10 You can now add more fields to your synced and unsynced record types. We've increased the total number of record fields you can configure on a record type from 100 to 500, giving you greater flexibility to capture all your business data. Plus, up to 50 of those fields can now be custom record fields, making it easier than ever to build rich, tailored data models for your applications. Change record type data sources in a single step Version: 26.10 When you consolidate databases or move your data to a new system, you can change the source for all the record types that depend on a data source connected system or Admin Console data source in one step. Before making any changes, an upfront validation check shows you exactly which record types are ready to move, giving you full visibility and confidence as you modernize your application architecture. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Case Management Studio AI-assisted case intake Version: 26.10 Case workers can now create a case by describing the situation in plain language or uploading a PDF, like an incident report or claim form. AI-assisted intake automatically identifies the most relevant case type and populates the submission form, eliminating manual, field-by-field data entry. The intake reads your live Control Panel configuration, so cases are classified against your active case types and values that land in your existing custom fields. Forms open pre-filled with everything the agent extracted, so case workers can review, adjust, or reclassify details before submitting. This makes case creation effortless and helps your team move from intake to resolution in record time. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Scale high-volume case processing with autoscale Version: 26.10 With autoscale for Case Management Studio, your task transitions stay quick and your queues keep moving—no matter how high your case volume climbs. Appian dynamically allocates resources to meet demand, keeping case processing fast whether you are handling heavy peak-hour traffic or a surge of submissions from the Case API Library. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close View reports directly in Workspace Version: 26.10 The Reports page in your Case Management Studio Workspace now includes a Process HQ dashboard that provides insights from datasets and process data. This includes the average case processing time, case status, open cases by type, or any other reports that you have created in Process HQ. Now, case managers, business analysts, and operations leads can review case performance right where they already work. And, we've set up the Case and Task record types to use a new, out-of-the-box Data Stewards group, saving you time setting record type security. Just add your users to the group, and get started configuring process insights. As a bonus, using the sample reports in the Demo Data module for metrics like case resolution time and SLA performance populates them in the dashboard from the start. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Run Case Management Studio on SQL Server Version: 26.10 Case Management Studio now ships database scripts for SQL Server alongside MariaDB, across the base application and its modules. If SQL Server is your organization's standard, you can set up Case Management Studio on it directly, with no manual script conversion to do first. The database scripts for both SQL Server and MariaDB are a part of the same download. Simply point your database step at the sqlserver-scripts folder instead of scripts, and continue. Process modeling and autoscale Schedule autoscaled processes with a timer start event Version: 26.10 Kick off autoscaled processes on a schedule with no wrapper process or external scheduler. Add a timer trigger to a process start event just like you do in standard processes, and your batch jobs, data syncs, and periodic reports run natively in autoscale with its dynamic scaling and lower latency. It is the same configuration you already know, now driving high-volume scheduled automation end to end. Manage autoscaled tasks with greater flexibility Version: 26.10 We've brought greater task flexibility to autoscaled processes, delivering the same reliable control you already use in standard processes. You can now enable Save Draft on any User Input Task node so users can preserve in-progress work and pick up right where they left off. Plus, built-in task reassignment lets users hand off tasks directly from the toolbar whenever priorities shift, keeping your teams agile so work never stalls. From Monitor mode of a process model, just right-click the node and select Start new instance to pick execution back up exactly at the point you need. With full control over where a process resumes, you can remediate a wider range of errors and debug faster without restarting the entire process. Speedier standard processes Version: 26.10 We've significantly reduced system overhead in how standard processes execute background work in unchained process flows. Sequential workloads, such as straight-through processing and overnight batches, will see the biggest gains, finishing up to 5x faster when the system has capacity to spare. Best of all, these performance enhancements are active by default, giving you faster turnaround times with no changes required in your applications. Process HQ Ask questions about processes and data with a unified Process HQ chat Version: 26.10 Process HQ now features a single AI-powered chat experience that allows you to analyze business processes and build reports on your record data using plain language. You can explore your data and get direct answers without spending time manually building out process artifacts or reports. Dive deeper into your processes by asking why a KPI is underperforming or where bottlenecks occur, and the chat identifies the root cause and highlights the attributes most closely tied to the problem. The chat also picks up the context of the process you're viewing, so you can keep your analysis moving without starting over. When you need a visualization of your record data, describe the report you want, and the chat creates and saves it in any chart type with an inline preview. Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to close Build scorecards that measure what matters most Version: 26.10 Scorecards just got a lot more flexible, giving you precise control over which metrics contribute to your overall score and how much each one counts. Secure custom domains with ECDSA certificates Version: 26.10 Custom domain certificates now support Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) private keys alongside RSA. Just let Appian Support know your preferred algorithm before the certificate is created. For Appian environment custom domains, choose from P-256, P-384, or P-521 curves, or RSA keys (2048, 3072, 4096 bits). For portals with custom domains, RSA 2048 and ECDSA P-256 and P-384 are available. The 2048-bit RSA key remains the default in both cases. ECDSA delivers stronger security at smaller key sizes, cutting TLS handshake overhead and meeting EU regulatory requirements that mandate elliptic curve cryptography for government communications. Before making the switch, confirm that every client connecting to your environments or portals supports ECDSA. General resolved issues Version: 26.10 AP-35442 - Low Fixed an error that occurred when a process variable contained a rule reference in a map field or LabelValue. Accessibility resolved issues Version: 26.10 AP-72738 - Medium Fixed an issue where closing a record action modal launched from a record list or grid did not return keyboard focus to the button that opened it. AP-5478 - Low Fixed an issue where screen readers announced record action names twice. Behavior changes CDT column definitions for decimal fields Version: 26.10 Previously, custom data types (CDTs) with xsd:decimal fields did not require an explicit column definition because Appian had only one decimal type—Number (Decimal), now renamed to Number (Decimal Floating). Our new Number (Decimal Precise) type isn't supported in CDTs, so xsd:decimal fields continue to map to Number (Decimal Floating). To keep the database column for each decimal field consistent, Appian now writes the column definition explicitly so each field's database column is clearly defined. Upgrading does not modify existing CDTs. The definition is added the first time you save or re-import each one. Because the definition is written into the XSD, a downloaded XSD can differ from the one you uploaded, which may cause the CDT to appear as modified if you compare or re-import XSDs in a CI/CD pipeline. This change doesn't affect how you use or publish your CDTs. Your applications, and publishing to a data store, work as before, and database columns remain the same. Evolutions The following functions, components, or smart services have newer, improved versions in this release. Existing, old versions in your applications will continue to function normally, but will be renamed on upgrade to indicate that they are older versions. Evolved functions and operators for precise decimal support Version: 26.10 We've evolved the following functions and division operator to support the Number (Decimal Precise) data type: Older version New version fixed() a!fixed() rand() a!rand() power() a!power() a!fromJson_26r9() a!fromJson() a!toJson_26r9() a!toJson() a!measure_26r9() a!measure() a!customFieldDivide_26r9 a!customFieldDivide() a!customFieldMultiply_26r9() a!customFieldMultiply() a!customFieldSubtract_26r9() a!customFieldSubtract() a!customFieldSum_26r9() a!customFieldSum() The division operator (/) now returns a Number (Decimal Precise) value when both operands are integers or booleans. Existing expressions that use the previous division behavior display _26r9 in the expression. Deprecations The features listed below are deprecated and will be removed in a future release of Appian. Do not begin using deprecated features, and transition away from any prior usage of now deprecated features. Where applicable, supported alternatives are described for each deprecation.
