Download and Install RWM
The RWM application was deprecated with Appian 24.1. The application will no longer be updated or pre-installed for new Appian Cloud sites with Appian RPA enabled.

RWM will be removed in a future release and we encourage customers to use the Operations Console to manage robots instead.

Introduction

This guide will take you through the common steps for downloading and installing the Robotic Workforce Manager (RWM) application, regardless of the RPA vendor selected.

RWM relies on a set of bundled plugins that Appian supports as part of the application. Support for use of these plugins in other scenarios is provided by the Appian community in accordance with AppMarket guidelines.

Note:  You won't need to do the the steps on this page if you are using a new Appian cloud site with Appian RPA enabled. The RWM application will be pre-installed.

You'll complete these steps to install RWM:

  1. Downloading the RWM package
  2. Installing plug-ins
  3. Importing the SQL Database scripts
  4. Importing the application package

Prerequisites

  • Appian Platform 20.1 for RWM 4.0.0 and above, and Appian Platform 20.2 for RWM 4.1.0 and above
  • MySQL or SQL Server as the relational database
  • Appian community downloads access

Downloading the RWM package

  1. In MyAppian, navigate to the SUPPORT tab for the RWM application.
  2. Select DOWNLOADS.
  3. Select SOLUTIONS.
  4. Select the relevant or latest Robotic Workforce Manager version available.
  5. Select RWM Installer under Downloads.
  6. Select Proceed.
  7. Unzip the downloaded file.
  8. If there are two sub-packages, unzip the one corresponding to your relational database vendor for your system and unzip the package.

Installing plug-ins

  1. In the unzipped file, open the file prerequisites.xml.
  2. Add each plug-in listed in that file using the instructions below.

Note:  The encryption functions plug-in has additional required set up instructions. The plug-in file and instructions are both available for download as one package.

To add a plug-in on a Cloud site:

  1. Log into the Appian environment as an Appian system administrator which will function as an import service account.
  2. Navigate to the Appian Administration Console.

  3. Click Plug-ins in the left side of the Admin Console.

  4. Click Deploy New Plug-ins.

  5. Search for the given plug-ins, select the plug-in, and click deploy.

Importing the SQL database scripts

Note:  The instructions below apply for Appian Cloud installations using MySQL. Steps may vary depending on database vendor.

  1. Navigate to the Cloud Database page.

  2. Select the database Appian.
  3. Click Import (shown below) on the top right.
  4. Upload the RoboticWorkforceManager(RWM)v5.2.sql file in the Scripts folder and click Go to run the script.

Importing the application package

Importing the RWM application package downloaded, Robotic WorkForce Manager.zip and its corresponding Robotic WorkForce Manager.properties file follows the standard Appian application import process. However, the configuration of the Robotic Workforce Manager.properties file varies by the selected RPA vendor.

Tip:  Using more than one RPA vendor with RWM? You'll only need to download and install RWM once. Once you download the application and complete the installation steps listed on this page, follow the configuration instructions for each vendor.
