The latest version of IDP provides you with the option to choose whether to process a document using Appian or Google. Both vendors have distinct capabilities for document extraction. The option appears in the Start Doc Extraction smart service and the configuration settings when you set up a new document channel in the application.
Appian can quickly and easily extract information present in PDFs without having to send it to Google's Document AI service. Appian can extract text from PDFs with an existing digital data layer, from previous processing or when saved from a word processor. This content can be highlighted, copied, searched, and accessed programmatically, enabling Appian to extract it without sending it to Google's services if required.

Appian's document extraction features provide strict data privacy and protection. If your business requires you to keep data within Appian, you have the option to choose which vendor IDP uses to process your documents.
In a process model, add the Start Doc Extraction Smart Service and select Appian or Google in the preferredVendor input.
For classification workflows, you can configure the preferred vendor as a default option for each document type. The chosen vendor processes the document when its classified according to this configuration.
