Enable custom properties

Before you install Connected Claims, you must enable two custom properties. The process differs depending on whether you have a self-managed or Appian Cloud environment.

Self-managed customers

Self-managed customers must enable the custom properties in the custom properties file before restarting the app server.

To enable the custom properties:

  1. Open the custom properties file located at <APPIAN_HOME>/conf/.
  2. Set the value of the appian.feature.solutions-api.enabled property to true. For example: appian.feature.solutions-api.enabled=true.
  3. Set the value of the appian.feature.solutions-api.accstudio.enabled property to true. For example: appian.feature.solutions-api.accstudio.enabled=true.
  4. Restart the app server. For instructions, see Starting and Stopping Appian. While the server restarts, you can start the installation process.

Appian Cloud customers

Appian Cloud customers must request assistance from Appian Support to manage environment toggles.

To enable the custom properties in Appian Cloud:

  1. Sign in to the Appian Community.
  2. Click the Support tab.
  3. Select Open a New Case and click + NEW CASE to create a new support ticket.
  4. Specify your environment details and list the feature toggles you need enabled:
    • appian.feature.solutions-api.enabled=true
    • appian.feature.solutions-api.accstudio.enabled=true
  5. Click CREATE CASE.

Download the software package

Download the software package for Connected Claims, which contains the following files. You use these files when you install Connected Claims.

  • PostgresConnectedClaimsManagementBasev2.1.0.sql
  • PostgresConnectedClaimsManagementBasev2.1.0.zip

To download the software package:

  1. In My Appian, go to the Support tab.
  2. Select DOWNLOADS > SOLUTIONS.
  3. In the grid, find and click Connected Claims.
  4. Under Downloads, click Postgres Connected Claims Base Only v2.0 and agree to the License Agreement.
  5. Click Postgres Connected Claims Base Only v2.0 to download the ZIP file.
  6. Unzip PostgresConnectedClaimsManagementBasev2.1.0.zip to access the installation files.

Deploy plug-ins

Before you import the Connected Claims application files, you must deploy and configure the plug-ins that Connected Claims requires in the target system. The steps differ depending on whether you have an Appian Cloud or a self-managed environment.

Appian Cloud environments

To deploy the plug-ins for an Appian Cloud environment:

  1. In the target environment, sign in as the deployment user.
  2. Go to the Admin Console.
  3. On the left side of the console, click Plug-ins.
  4. Click ADD PLUG-INS.
  5. Search for and click Appian Solutions.
  6. Click DEPLOY.
  7. Repeat the ADD PLUG-INS, search, and DEPLOY steps for each of the following plug-ins:
    • Appian Solutions Component Plugins 1.3.0+
    • Appian Solutions Plugin 1.39.1+
    • Content Tools - 1.1.11+
    • Appian Regular Expression Functions
    • Date and Time Utilities

Self-managed environments

To deploy the plug-ins for a self-managed environment:

  1. Download the following plug-ins directly from the Appian AppMarket:
  2. Deploy the plug-ins by following the instructions in Deploying Plug-ins.

Create the PostgreSQL database objects

To create the structure for the database tables, views, and other objects that are part of Connected Claims in your PostgreSQL business database, run the PostgresConnectedClaimsManagementBasev2.1.0.sql DDL script. You downloaded this script when you downloaded the software package.

To create the structure for the PostgreSQL database tables, views, and other objects that are part of Create Claim via Email in your PostgreSQL business database, also run the 01.CCMAddOnClaimCreationViaEmailv1.1.0.sql DDL script. You downloaded this script when you downloaded the software package.

Create the MSGraph Mail Poller database objects

The MSGraph Mail Poller in Connected Claims can store mailbox email data in either MySQL or Oracle. Connected Claims creates all tables that the MSGraph Mail Poller uses in the MySQL cloud database, while it creates the remaining tables in the PostgreSQL database.

To create the structure for the database tables related to the MSGraph Mail Poller, import the MysqlCCMAddOnClaimCreationViaEmailv1.1.0.sql DDL script. You downloaded this script when you downloaded the software package.

To import the database script:

  1. In the target environment, sign in as the deployment user.
  2. Go to the Cloud Database.
  3. Select the Appian database schema or the same database schema that holds the tables related to the Connected Claims Management Base application.
  4. Click IMPORT.
  5. Click Choose File and upload the database script for the application.
  6. Click IMPORT.

Import the application

After you create the PostgreSQL and MSGraph Mail Poller database objects, import the Connected Claims application into the target environment.

To import the application:

  1. In the target environment, sign in as the deployment user.
  2. Go to Appian Designer.
  3. Click IMPORT.
  4. Click UPLOAD and choose the application PostgresConnectedClaimsManagementBasev2.1.0.zip file that you downloaded when you downloaded the software package.
  5. Click INSPECT to check for problems before you import.
  6. Click IMPORT.
  7. Review the import results to verify that the Connected Claims Management Base application container was imported.

After the import completes, install Case Management Studio.

Install Case Management Studio

Add-on modules extend the features and capabilities of Connected Claims. Some add-on modules require Case Management Studio to work with the Connected Claims base application.

The Case Management Studio installation depends on your environment:

  • Appian Cloud: Case Management Studio comes pre-installed in new Appian Cloud sites. Appian Support can install it on request in existing Appian Cloud sites that do not have it. If Case Management Studio is already installed, no further installation steps are needed.
  • Self-managed: Follow the steps in Install Case Management Studio for Self-Managed Customers. The installation downloads the software package, deploys the application plug-ins, creates the database objects, imports the application, and sets up groups.

After Case Management Studio is installed, set up groups.

Set up groups

Security in Connected Claims is defined by three main role groups: Claims Adjusters, Claims Examiners, and Claims Supervisors. Functionally, these groups have the same access rights to Connected Claims, and you can alter group security to meet the needs of specific use cases.

To allow users to access the Connected Claims Workspace:

  1. In Appian Designer, find the CCM Claim Supervisors, CCM Claim Adjusters, or CCM Claim Examiners group.

Note:  Users in the CCM Claim Supervisors group have access to both Connected Claims Workspace and the Control Panel.

  2. Click Add Members.
  3. In the Search field, enter the usernames you want to select and add them to the Users to Add field.
  4. After locating all users, click Add.

You must also set up business-level groups, which Connected Claims uses to assign claims and tasks. The application ships with all three role groups (Claims Adjusters, Claims Examiners, and Claims Supervisors) as business groups. You can create and define new business groups to meet your needs.

To create new business groups:

  1. From Appian Designer, locate and click the CCM Business Groups group.
  2. Click New Group.
  3. Enter a name for the new business group, for example, Finance.
  4. Add group members.
  5. Set group Visibility to Public.
  6. Click Create.
  7. Repeat these steps until you create all the necessary business groups.

After you set up the user groups, see Extend Connected Claims to learn how to incorporate modules that extend Connected Claims.
