Administrators should ensure their Appian environments meet the following requirements before using DocCenter.

DocCenter environment requirements

DocCenter is available on Appian Cloud and self-managed environments, but is not available on Appian Community Edition.

To use DocCenter, your Appian environment must have the required plug-ins and AI skills enabled. When you deploy models to other environments, each target environment must also have these plug-ins and AI skills enabled.

Note: Earlier versions of DocCenter required you to set up API keys to deploy models to higher environments. API key setup is no longer required as of DocCenter 3.0.

Model and region selection

DocCenter is powered by AI models available in Appian. Administrators can control model configurations on the AI Services page in the Administration Console.

Tip: Before installing or upgrading DocCenter, Appian recommends administrators enable a currently supported model and select an inference profile on the AI Services page.

When configuring extraction or classification models, DocCenter displays all preconfigured provider and model combinations available in your environment. The provider list includes Appian's default AI provider as well as any custom providers configured through the Administration Console. You can assign different providers to individual extraction models, classification models, and AI Reviewers, allowing you to mix and match infrastructure across your DocCenter models.

Note: Providers must be preconfigured in your Appian environment settings before they appear in DocCenter. You cannot create or configure providers from within DocCenter. For information on setting up custom providers, see AI Services.

DocCenter can extract and process data from multiple data inputs, such as visual and text-based content. You can use visual extraction by selecting Visual as you define fields in your extraction model.

If your environment is hosted in a region that does not support multimodal AI models, you must enable cross-region inference profiles to use Visual extraction. If you are using an older model that does not support inference profiles, contact Appian Support for assistance.

To use DocCenter models, your target environment must have the following AI skills enabled:

Supported databases

To use DocCenter, your environment must use a supported version of MariaDB or PostgreSQL. If you use a different database, it must be compatible with direct data access.
