Overview

Appian's tiered model meets the needs of enterprise customers by allowing them to select the capabilities best suited to their requirements for each application.

Note: This information does not apply to Appian Government Cloud.

Appian AI Actions Pricing

Appian's AI Actions pricing provides a simple and predictable consumption-based model for utilizing all of Appian's AI features. It ensures your costs are directly aligned with the value and complexity of the AI features you use.

What is an AI Action?

An AI Action is the unit of measure used to track and charge for the execution of Appian's AI features within your applications.

Every time an Appian AI feature executes—whether it's an AI Agent completing a multi-step task, the Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) feature extracting data, or Smart Search indexing a document—it consumes a certain number of AI Actions.

How AI Actions are Consumed

The consumption of AI Actions is designed to reflect the complexity and resources required for the task. Most AI feature executions currently start at ten (10) AI Actions, but consumption may vary based on the feature and task complexity.

For reference, here are some example scenarios:

AI Use Case	Typical AI Actions Consumed	Variables that Could Impact Cost
Generative AI	10 AI Actions	Executions exceeding 500 tokens will consume additional AI Actions, reflecting the complexity of large context windows or long LLM responses.
Intelligent Document Processing (IDP)	20 AI Actions	Use of more nuanced models, graphical content in unstructured documents, and the complexity of the document process may consume additional AI Actions.
Smart Search	10 AI Actions	The number of pages indexed for Smart Search and the frequency of re-indexing could consume additional AI Actions.
AI Agents	50 AI Actions	The complexity of the AI agent, the number of tasks completed, and the number of tools that the agent interacts with could consume additional AI Actions.

Appian will transition to AI Actions pricing with the 25.4 platform release. Customers with existing AI Tokens can use them until consumed or the end of the license term, after which they will purchase AI Actions upon renewal.
