Groups Reference

Award Management (AM) organizes user access through three categories of default groups. In AM 2.6 and later, User Access Management (UAM) manages all group membership changes through the Acquisition Central interface. Administrators must not modify AM group membership directly in Appian Designer.

Default groups in Award Management

Manage user access in Award Management by assigning users to the following default group categories:

• Business groups: Business groups represent the different business roles that interact with AM. Examples include Contracting Officer, Legal, and Contracting Officer Representative (COR). In AM 2.6 and later, business groups correspond to UAM Roles. UAM dynamically manages membership in these groups when administrators assign users to roles.
• Security groups: Security groups control access to AM functionality. Different business groups are members of security groups, which grants access to solution features for entire roles. In AM 2.6 and later, security groups correspond to UAM Permissions. UAM manages the mapping between permission sets and security groups.
• Wrapper groups: Wrapper groups organize multiple groups of the same category together. AM uses wrapper groups to query for all groups of a certain category across the application. Examples include AS AM Business Roles and AS AM Departments.

How UAM relates to Award Management groups

UAM introduces a layer between administrators and the underlying Appian Groups:

UAM concept	Appian Group equivalent	Purpose
Role	Business group	Represents a business persona. Users are assigned to Roles in UAM, which adds them to the corresponding business group.
Permission set	Logical grouping (no direct group)	Bundles related permissions by business function. Permission sets are not backed by individual Appian Groups.
Permission	Security group	Grants access to a specific action. Each UAM Permission maps to an existing AM security group.

Group visibility settings for Award Management

Award Management assigns visibility settings to each group type to control which groups appear in application pickers:

Business group	Public	End users select business groups in AM application pickers.
Security group	Private	End users do not see security groups in AM application pickers.
Wrapper group	Private	End users do not see wrapper groups in AM application pickers.

All security groups are members of the AS AM Security Groups group.

For security groups where no business group is listed, grant membership to individual users.
