Preparing for RWM
The RWM application was deprecated with Appian 24.1. The application will no longer be updated or pre-installed for new Appian Cloud sites with Appian RPA enabled.

RWM will be removed in a future release and we encourage customers to use the Operations Console to manage robots instead.

Your business has a lot to consider when it comes to automation. Is the investment in this technology worth the return? Which solution is best for the environment? Who will lead this project and maintain automations?

These are all very important questions to consider and discuss. Robotic Workforce Manager (RWM) can orchestrate this information and action in one place to help you determine return on investment and identify opportunities for improvement. If you've determined that RWM is a good fit to complement your automation practice, you may also be thinking about how to get started.

This page outline some things to consider as you get started with Appian Support to set up and launch RWM. The suggestions on this page are aimed at making this process smooth for you and your team.

Identify your team

A lot of people make a lot of decisions in a software procurement project. You'll likely engage with many people internally at your business to understand the full impact of adopting RWM. You might find it helpful to identify points of contact for the project early on. This way, you know exactly who can help you answer questions during setup and adoption.

Additionally, these individuals might need to join meetings or be available during set up and deployment. Knowing which teammates to involve and when can help make coordination much easier. It's also helpful to clearly communicate each person's role in the project so nothing falls through the cracks.

Investigate your security requirements

By design, data moves between multiple places during a robotic process. Automating this transfer is appealing to a business because of the time it saves. Naturally, this movement and storage leads to conversations around data security. Securing your business's data is a top concern if it contains personally identifiable information (PII), personal health information (PHI), financial information, or other data that's legally protected.

If your business has certain standards for data security, be sure to outline and communicate these requirements with Appian at the beginning of your engagement. You can learn about Appian's commitment to data security in the Trust Center.

Consider your architecture

Any time you consider adding a new piece of technology to your business, it's important to evaluate whether it works well with your existing infrastructure. Going beyond minimum requirements, you may want to consider whether the solution will scale well as you upgrade or acquire additional technology.

Appian Support can help you understand how RWM and your chosen RPA vendor fit into your architecture.

Develop a list of questions

Automation is an exciting prospect for your business, but its impact is heavily influenced by a careful and intentional launch. Appian wants to help you launch RWM so it's seamless and useful from day one. To do that, we encourage you to begin developing a list of questions to guide the conversation and clearly communicate about key requirements.

We can begin discussing these questions early on in the process, so feel free to share your concerns or curiosities with your support contact before your first meeting. Appian Support can begin assembling answers or solutions.
