Connected System Plug-ins

Overview

This page provides an introduction of connected system plug-ins and several example use cases.

Have you ever wanted to…

  • Connect to Salesforce using a point-and-click interface?
  • See a list of SAP BAPIs and their parameters when configuring an integration?
  • Upload documents to Google Drive without reading mountains of API documentation?

Appian provides a number of connected systems, including those for Amazon Machine Learning, Microsoft Azure LUIS, and others. Connected system plug-ins let you add additional connected systems to Appian. You can create custom connected systems and integrations, each with a guided experience for designers to send and receive data to other system and services. Designers don’t need to know in advance what’s required to connect, they just need to “fill in the blanks”.

Built for integration

Connected system plug-ins are part of the Integration SDK, designed for connecting with third-party systems. They provide a guided design experience based on the details of the target system. Connected system plug-ins also provide more customization. For example, you can configure custom authentication for your customer’s API. Connected system plug-ins are built to make integrations easier for both developers and designers.

Built for Java developers

Connected system plug-ins are built using a Java based framework. You don't need to know Appian expressions or SAIL. You can even use existing Java libraries to speed up your implementation.

Built for sharing

Connected system plug-ins can be reused across sites, use cases, and customers. They can also be listed on the Appian AppMarket where Appian customers can find and use them. Once installed, connected system plug-ins are available to any Appian designer when they create connected systems and integrations in their application.

Built for low-code

The connected systems created from your plug-in are used just like the connected systems that ship with Appian. Designers have a custom, visual integration experience in Appian to connect to the new system, so there's no need to search REST documentation.
