Dashboards are useful ways to present process data visually. Dashboards contain a number of charts and graphs that help communicate about key metrics within a given log. Process Mining lets you create, manage, and share dashboards to track and communicate this information within your organization.

This page describes how to create, use, manage, and share dashboards in Process Mining.

Where to find dashboards

Find your dashboards in the Dashboard page of Process Mining. You'll have access to dashboards you created or dashboards that have been shared with you.

Advanced Dashboard appears only if you have a custom-coded dashboard available for the selected log. Advanced dashboards are built using R Shiny, while standard dashboards are built directly in Process Mining.

Create a dashboard

An empty dashboard automatically appears for the log you have selected. You can add charts and additional tabs to the dashboard to interpret the data.

Edit mode

To add items, such as charts and metrics, to the dashboard, you must switch to the editing mode of the page or dashboard.

To switch to dashboard edit mode:

  1. Go to the Dashboard page.
  2. Click Enable Edit Mode in the dashboard panel.

Edit button

Add a new chart

Once you're in editing mode, you can add a new item. In the sidebar, select a chart type from the list:

  • Number / KPI
  • Gauge chart
  • Histogram
  • Column chart
  • Bar chart
  • Stacked column chart
  • Stacked bar chart
  • Line chart
  • Area chart
  • Combined chart
  • Discovered Model

An empty chart appears on the dashboard, ready for your configuration.

In the Settings area of the Configuration Options, enter the following:

  • Chart Title
  • Chart type (automatically populated based on your previous selection)
  • Metric You can use multiple metrics for combined charts.
  • Dimension (at least one). You can use multiple dimensions for stacked graphs.

pm-chart-config

When a metric or a dimension is selected, first one of the "basic values" (case duration, total activity duration per case, waiting / transport time, number of cases, number of events, attributes) and then its specification are selected.

The log you have selected determines the attributes that appear in the charts. The options that appear in the chart configurations may differ between logs.

In the case duration, you can choose the average duration, the median duration, the total duration, the minimum duration, or the maximum duration, standard deviation, percentile.

You can also apply a filter to the chart. Click Add filter to create one.

When you're ready to save changes, click UPDATE. The chart refreshes and shows the updated information. You'll see No data available in the chart if the commands do not lead to a valid result or if there is no data for the selected combination.

Move and resize a chart

You can change the size and location of the chart on the dashboard. The size of the chart is adjusted according to the lines of the dashboard grid. You need to be in editing mode to resize or move a chart.

To move the chart, click and hold the arrows icon in the lower left. Drag and drop the chart where you want it to appear on the dashboard.

To resize the chart, click and drag the lower right corner to make it larger or smaller.

  2. Click ADD next to Threshold
  3. Define the threshold values:
    1. Operator: Options include Greater than, Greater or Equal to, Lower than, and Lower or Equal to.

  4. Start adding and arranging charts in the tab.

To delete a tab, click the X on the tab.

Dashboard templates

If you previously built a dashboard that you wish to use again, or a dashboard has been shared with you, you can use it as a template when you create a new dashboard. When you add a new tab, choose Create New from Library to create a dashboard from a template.

In the window, you'll see your existing dashboards or dashboards that have been shared with you. Both types of dashboards appear in the table. Use the search function and the navigation options to locate the dashboard you wish to use.

Click the row of the dashboard you want to use. Click CREATE COPY to use that dashboard as a starting point for your new dashboard.

pm-dashboard-library

When you create a dashboard, Process Mining uses data from the log you currently have selected. Therefore, certain charts may not appear correctly when you create a dashboard from a template that was designed to be used with a different data set.

Manage dashboards

The Dashboard Management page lists the dashboards you have created, as well as dashboards that have been shared with you. Both lists appear in a table and show:

  • Dashboard name
  • Connected logs
  • Created on
  • Updated on
  • Owner (Dashboards shared with you)

Use the search and navigation options to locate a specific dashboard.

You can share your dashboards from this page:

  1. Open the context menu for a dashboard.
  2. Click Share dashboard.
  3. Select whether to Share with whole organization or Share with individual users.
  4. If you choose Share with individual users, search for and select the checkbox next to the appropriate user accounts.
  5. Click SAVE.

Dashboard Management menu

To delete a dashboard, open the context menu for a dashboard. Click Delete dashboard. Deleting a dashboard is permanent and removes it for anyone who it was shared with.
