The clause selection process enables you to select and edit a group of clauses, also called a clause set, that you need to create a clause supplemental document. The Appian Government Clause Automation (GCA) solution walks users through a guided experience that enables them to collect contract information and answer additional questions so the solution can automatically add or suggest clauses needed for the contract. Learn how to create a new clause set, including how to use the AI Assistant to accelerate questionnaire completion. Note: Clause set creation is temporarily disabled while alternate clause text processing is in progress. The CREATE CLAUSE SET action becomes available again once processing completes. A processing banner on the Clauses page indicates when processing is active. Clause set creation steps In Government Clause Automation (GCA), creating a clause set consists of the following steps: Select documents (optional) Provide details Answer questionnaires Generation Complete Select documents In Government Clause Automation (GCA), before providing contract details, you can optionally upload source documents for the AI Assistant to analyze. The AI Assistant extracts relevant data from your documents and pre-fills questionnaire responses, reducing the time needed to complete the questionnaire. You can skip the select document step and complete the questionnaire manually. If you are creating an amendment or an action off an existing vehicle, no questionnaire is required. GCW + GCA users If you are using GCA integrated with Government Contract Writing (GCW), the system displays documents attached to the solicitation or award record for selection, including: Solicitation documents. Award documents. Statement of Work (SOW), Statement of Objectives (SOO), or Performance Work Statement (PWS). To select documents for AI analysis: Review the documents listed from the contract file. The relevant documents are pre-selected. Select up to five PDF documents to analyze. Each document can be a maximum of 25 MB in size. Click Next to begin processing. Standalone GCA users If you are using GCA without GCW, you can upload documents directly. To upload documents for AI analysis: Drag and drop or browse to select up to five PDF documents. For information about alternate clause processing status, see Managing Clauses. Answer questionnaires Government Clause Automation (GCA) enables you to have multiple questionnaires for your agency. When creating a new clause set, only the default questionnaire appears. Each questionnaire can have multiple categories and multiple questions in each category. To complete a questionnaire, users must answer all of the questions in each category. AI-assisted questionnaire completion If you uploaded documents for AI analysis, the questionnaire displays AI-suggested answers alongside each question. A summary at the top of the questionnaire shows how many questions the AI suggested answers for and how many require manual input. Each AI suggestion includes: The suggested answer. A confidence level (High, Medium, or Low). Reasoning with a reference to the relevant section and page number. The source document name and location. The uploaded documents can be previewed by clicking the source link with which you can review the AI suggestions in context with the source document. You can switch between the different documents that were uploaded. Tags help you identify the status of each question: AI answered: Pre-filled by AI (High confidence). User answered: Manually answered by you (manually entered or modified). Edited: Pre-filled by AI, modified by you. Unanswered: Not yet answered. High and medium-confidence suggestions are pre-selected automatically. Low-confidence suggestions are shown but not pre-selected and require your review. Review and complete the questionnaire To complete the AI-assisted questionnaire: Review each AI suggestion and its reasoning. Leave the pre-selected answer in place to accept a suggestion. Select a different answer to override a suggestion. Answer any questions without AI suggestions. Review all low confidence questions before proceeding. The CREATE button is disabled until all low confidence questions are acknowledged. Click CREATE to generate the clause set. Note: You can also choose to complete the questionnaire manually without AI assistance, but you can only do so only at the beginning. Generation complete After clicking CREATE on the Questionnaire page, Government Clause Automation (GCA) creates the clause set in the background. You can return to the landing page by clicking CLOSE or navigate to the clause set and wait for it to finish by clicking VIEW CLAUSE SET. Once the clause set generation completes, you receive an email notification. Note: If your clause set contains alternate clauses that have been processed by AI-assisted text cleanup but not yet reviewed by an administrator, those clauses show a Pending Admin Review indicator. The AI-updated text is used in your clause set, but it has not been formally approved. You can still edit the clause text locally within your clause set, or contact your administrator to complete the review. Pending admin review does not prevent you from finalizing the clause set. After creating a clause set, you can view, manage, and take action on the clause set. Feedback Was this page helpful? SHARE FEEDBACK Loading...
