User access management in Contract Writing Contract Writing (CW) integrates with User Access Management (UAM) to provide centralized role and permission management. UAM implements a three-tier access model that organizes CW groups into the following categories: Roles: Represent the business personas that interact with Contract Writing. CW groups tagged with UAM\ROLE are registered as roles in UAM. Examples include Contracting Officer, Contract Specialist, Contracting Manager, and Agreement Officer. Permissions: Control access to specific CW functionality. CW groups tagged with UAM\PERMISSION are registered as permissions in UAM. Examples include AS GCW Create or Update Solicitation PM Access and AS GCW Line Item Record Access. Permission Sets: Logical groupings of permissions organized by business functionality. Permission Sets are database mappings managed in UAM and are not Appian Group objects. Examples include Award — Create & Update (GCW) and Solicitation — Release (GCW). After UAM is configured, manage all role and permission changes through the UAM interface rather than directly in Appian Designer. See the UAM Overview for detailed information about the access model. For instructions on installing and configuring UAM for Contract Writing, see Step 7: Configure User Access Management for CW. For information about the UAM group structure and setup process, see the Setting Up UAM guide. Note: Groups that are not tagged with UAM\ROLE or UAM\PERMISSION are not managed by UAM. Untagged groups include administrator groups, designer alerts groups, service account groups, and picker groups. See Untagged groups for the full list. Group categories in Contract Writing Contract Writing organizes groups into the following structural categories: Business groups (Roles): Represent the different business roles that interact with Contract Writing. Tagged as UAM\ROLE. Examples include Contracting Officer, Contract Specialist, and Contracting Manager. Security groups (Permissions): Control access to Contract Writing functionality. Tagged as UAM\PERMISSION. Different roles are assigned permissions through UAM Permission Sets. Parent groups: Organize multiple role groups that map to the same category together. Examples include Contracting Personnel, Agreement Personnel, and AS GCW Departments. Umbrella groups: Contain all business user groups across the application. Examples include AS GCW All Business Users and AS GAM All Business Users. Group visibility settings for Contract Writing Contract Writing assigns visibility settings to each group type to control which groups appear in application pickers: Group Type Visibility Reason Business group (Role) Public End users can select business groups in Contract Writing application pickers. Security group (Permission) Private End users cannot see security groups in Contract Writing application pickers. Parent group Private End users cannot see parent groups in Contract Writing application pickers. Umbrella group Private End users cannot see umbrella groups in Contract Writing application pickers. Permission Set assignments by role in Contract Writing Contract Writing uses Permission Sets to manage access rather than direct security-group-to-action mappings. The following table shows which Permission Sets are assigned to each role in Contract Writing. An "X" indicates the role has access to that Permission Set. Note: Contract Writing replaces the legacy action-to-security-group mapping with the UAM Permission Set model. For granular permission details (which individual security groups map to which Permission Sets), see the UAM interface after configuration is complete. Known limitations for UAM in Contract Writing Contract Writing UAM integration has the following known limitations: Customer customizations: Any group-related customizations made before UAM integration must be manually configured in UAM. Automatic migration of custom group structures is not supported. Validation tooling: CW doesn't include a tool for verifying that the role relationships displayed in UAM match the actual group structure in Appian Designer. Group deletion: Removing a group from the CW baseline doesn't delete the group from your environment on upgrade. Remove deprecated groups manually when appropriate. Group relationship removal: Removing existing group relationships in the CW baseline doesn't automatically update existing UAM installations on upgrade. Additive changes are applied automatically; removals require manual action. Changes must go through UAM: After UAM is configured, make all role and permission changes through the UAM interface rather than directly in Appian Designer. Cross-environment deployment: Deploying customized group structures across environments is not supported. Make UAM changes manually in each environment. See the UAM Overview for detailed information about UAM capabilities and configuration. Feedback Was this page helpful? SHARE FEEDBACK Loading...
