Process Model AI-Augmented Development

On This Page

In the Process Modeler, Appian uses AI to augment your development. Appian mines anonymized data gathered over years about how applications are built and feeds it into AI agents. Those agents help developers by suggesting the nodes they are most likely to use next while building a process model. This page explains how to use suggested nodes to speed up process model development.

Tip:  Suggested nodes speed up building a process model manually. To build and configure an entire process model from a natural language description instead, see Build Process Models with Composer.

What are suggested nodes?

Suggested nodes are node and smart service recommendations that Appian's AI generates while you build a process model. Because the Process Modeler offers a large number of nodes and smart services, it might take a minute to find the right one. To save you important time, AI in the Process Modeler analyzes the state of your canvas as you build a process model, and predicts the nodes you are most likely to add next.

View suggested nodes

Appian displays suggested nodes in two places in the Process Modeler:

  • Smart service palette: Suggested nodes appear in the upper-left corner of the process modeler.
  • Connector menu: Right-click a connector between two nodes to see suggested nodes for that point in the process model.

Scroll or drag to pan · ⌘+/⌘− to zoom · Esc to closescreenshot of suggested nodes smart service palette and popup

Find a node when none is suggested

If the node or smart service you need is not suggested, you can find it in two ways:

  • Palette search: Search for the node or smart service in the palette on the left side of the process modeler.
  • Connector menu: Right-click a connector between two nodes to search for a node.
