About renewal management Connected Underwriting (CU) P&C provides renewal management capabilities that enable underwriter managers and underwriters to efficiently manage the policy renewal process. This feature allows you to schedule policies for renewal in a timely manner, reassess risk, adjust premiums, and communicate with customers according to agreed terms and conditions. This page describes how to: View policies up for renewal Update renewal decision Renew a policy Update submission data Compare risk data Key terminology Before working with renewal management, familiarize yourself with the following terms: Term Description Policy Expiration Date The official date on which an existing insurance policy expires and the deadline for binding the renewed policy. Scheduled Date The date on which the policy is triggered to begin the renewal underwriting process, typically occurring a specified time (e.g., 6 weeks) before the Policy Expiration Date Communication Date The latest date by which premium and coverage changes must be communicated to the customer. Expiration Range An application parameter used to group multiple policies expiring for the same customer within a specified timeframe. View policies up for renewal Underwriters can view policies up for renewal from the Submission Workbench by selecting the Renewals tab. The renewal overview displays the following details: Submission Expiring Premium Status Customer Name Broker Name (if applicable) Line of Business Renewal Effective Date Expiration Date Note: The overview is sorted by Expiration Date by default. Use filters such as Status, Assignee, and LOB along with the search bar to locate specific policies. Renewal statuses Renewals can have the following statuses: Status Description Renewal Approved Renewal has been approved. Renewal Declined Renewal has been rejected. Mark For Renewal Renewal has been marked for renewal. Mark for Renewals For each policy up for renewal, underwriters can take the following actions: Renew: Proceeds to renew the policy by creating a submission with the current details pre-filled. Do not Renew: Hides the policy from the list of policies up for renewal. Update renewal decision Underwriters can officially determine the outcome of a policy expiration through the Update Renewal Decision modal. This process ensures that every renewal follows a formal decision path with a recorded audit trail. Decision Options: Proceed with Renewal: This action automatically creates a new submission. All existing policy data is pre-filled across all tabs to streamline the process. Decline Renewal: This is the formal action used to reject a renewal. Selecting this officially marks the renewal as Rejected and removes the policy from the active workbench list. Mark for Renewal: This allows an underwriter to flag a policy for future renewal processing without immediately generating a new submission. Automatic policy grouping To streamline the renewal process for clients with multiple active policies, the system automatically groups related records based on an Expiration Range parameter. Grouping Logic: The system identifies multiple policies for the same customer that have expiration dates falling within a specified timeframe (e.g., 30 days) of each other. Simultaneous Scheduling: Instead of receiving separate notifications, all policies within the group are scheduled for renewal simultaneously at the earliest calculated Scheduled Date. Cohesive Review: This grouping allows you to review and manage the entire customer relationship as a single unit, ensuring consistent terms and conditions across all renewed coverages. Workflow Efficiency: Grouping prevents redundant data entry and allows underwriters to apply common risk assessments to the entire account rather than individual policy files. Renew a policy To renew a policy, click RENEW POLICY from an existing policy summary. When you initiate a renewal, the system automatically creates a new submission record pre-filled with all existing policy data across all tabs. To renew a policy: Navigate to the Renewals tab in the Submission Workbench. Locate the policy and select Renew. Note: You can select Do not Renew to hide a policy from the list. In the Renew Policy modal, review risk information and enter mandatory details such as Renewal Effective Date and Assignee. Upload any required Supporting Documents and add Notes regarding the renewal. Click SUBMIT. Once submitted, the system generates a new submission ID (e.g., REN-2026-001234). Underwriters have two primary ways to stop a renewal from progressing: Mark as Ready (Workbench Action): Used to officially approve the renewal. Decline Renewal (Decision Modal): Used to officially reject the renewal. This action requires a mandatory Reason for non-renewal, which is permanently captured in the record's audit trail. Both paths result in the renewal status transitioning to Rejected. Decline a renewal If a policy no longer meets underwriting appetite or the broker has requested a non-renewal, underwriters can officially decline the renewal to close the file. Navigate to the Renewals tab in the Submission Workbench. Locate the specific policy and click Renew. In the decision modal, select Decline Renewal. Note: Selecting Do not Renew directly from the workbench grid will also hide the policy from the active renewals pipeline. Enter Mandatory Reason: Once the decline action is selected, the system enforces a mandatory Notes or Reason field. Underwriters must provide a clear rationale for the non-renewal (e.g., risk outside of appetite, high loss ratio, or requested by broker). Review the Risk Information panel on the right to ensure all historical context was considered. Click SUBMIT. Workflow impact Status Update: The renewal status transitions to Rejected (or Declined). Audit Trail: The mandatory notes are permanently captured in the record, ensuring historical context is available for future assessment. Pipeline Management: The policy is removed from the active "In Review" list to maintain an accurate workbench view. AI-driven renewal assessment The AI Assistant provides an intelligent layer of analysis to help you quickly evaluate the complexity and risks of a renewal submission. Automated Submission Summary: Upon opening a renewal record, the AI Assistant automatically generates a concise Summary of the entire submission. This allows you to understand the customer’s profile and key renewal details at a glance without navigating multiple tabs. Interactive "Ask AI" Queries: You can use the ASK AI feature to interact directly with the submission data. By chatting with the record, you can quickly pinpoint significant variances in Risk Exposure or Financial Performance, such as: "What are the major changes in assets compared to the previous policy term?" "Summarize the differences in survey responses for this renewal." "Are there any new high-risk locations added to this submission?" Update submission data When working with a renewal submission, you can view existing policy data but cannot edit certain sections directly. View-only sections Underwriters can view but cannot edit existing policy data for the following sections: Risk Exposure Loss Runs Surveys Financial Performance Add new data Underwriters can add new data across all sections of the submission to capture updated information for the renewal period. The specific fields and actions available depend on the line of business. For example, to add a new premise for a Commercial Property submission: Click EDIT PREMISE. Click ADD PREMISE. Enter all required current details, including: Location and Building Numbers. Street Address, City, State, and Zip Code. Construction Type and Year Built. Subject of Insurance, Amount, and Valuation. Click SAVE to add this updated row to the renewal submission. Risk data comparison After entering new data in the Risk Details tab, underwriters can compare the new data with the existing policy data. This comparison helps ensure accurate risk assessment during the renewal process. To compare risk data: Navigate to the Risk Details tab in the renewal submission. Enter the new data for the renewal period. Review the comparison view for the following sections: Risk Exposure Loss Runs Surveys Financial Performance The comparison highlights differences between the existing policy data and the new submission data, enabling you to identify changes that may impact underwriting decisions.
