Process Task Link

On This Page

Defines a link to a process task. The process task link automatically identifies whether the task is part of a standard or autoscaled process.

Use the process task link in components that accept links:

  • Charts: Add the process task link to a chart series.
  • Grids: Add the process task link to a grid text column.
  • Images: Add the process task link to a document image or web image.
  • Link fields: Display one or more process task links in a link field.
  • Other components: Use the process task link in hierarchy browsers, milestones, pickers, and rich text.

Parameters

a!processTaskLink( label, task, showWhen, openLinkIn )

Name Keyword Types Description

Label

label

Text

Text displayed as the link name the user clicks on.

Task

task

Task

Identifier of the process task to use as the address of the link.

Show When

showWhen

Boolean

Determines whether the component is displayed on the interface. When set to false, the component is hidden and is not evaluated. Default: true.

Open Link In

openLinkIn

Text

(Browser-Only) Determines where the linked content should open. Valid values: "SAME_TAB" (default), "NEW_TAB".

The following considerations apply when using the process task link component.

Retrieving task identifiers

Use a!queryTaskList() to retrieve individual task results from standard and autoscaled processes in one query, then use the returned task identifiers to create links.

Opening tasks from either process engine

The process task link automatically determines if the identifier provided in the task parameter references a standard or autoscaled process.

Appian Mobile considerations

For tasks in standard processes, links to tasks assigned to groups and social tasks are not supported offline. If a user accepts a group-assigned task while online, the user can access the task offline.

Tasks from autoscaled processes cannot be opened offline.

Examples

The following example demonstrates how to create a process task link.

To experiment with examples, copy and paste the expression into an interface object.

Feature compatibility

The table below lists this component's compatibility with various features in Appian.
Feature Compatibility Note
Portals Incompatible
Offline Interfaces Partially compatible

Can be used with offline interfaces if loaded at the top of the interface.

Sync-Time Custom Record Fields Incompatible
Real-Time Custom Record Fields Incompatible

Custom record fields that evaluate in real time must be configured using one or more Custom Field functions.

Process Reports Incompatible

Cannot be used to configure a process report.

Process Events Incompatible

Cannot be used to configure a process event node, such as a start event or timer event.

Process Autoscaling Incompatible

Cannot be used in autoscaled processes.

Event Consumer Filter Conditions Compatible

Can be used in filter conditions.

Event Consumer Event Handlers Compatible

Can be used in event handler expressions.

The following recipes include usage of the Process Task Link.

  • Display a User's Tasks in a Grid With Task Links (Grids, Reports, Looping):

Display the tasks for a user in a Read-Only Grid and allow them to click on a task to navigate to the task itself.

  • Offline Task Report (Grids, Filtering, Process Task Links, Task Reports, Looping):

Display a task report for a user that will work in Appian Mobile, even when the user is offline.

  • Task Report Pattern (Grids, Filters, Process Task Links, Task Reports):

Provides a simple way to create and display an Appian task report.
