The Processes tab of the Application Designer provides the following functionality.

  • List active processes
  • View and launch process models, and provides a number of administrative controls.
  • Each process view displays a standard report toolbar, which provides additional options.

In the Processes view, the search field in the left navigation allows you to look up a given process model or instance by name. The results that match your search criteria appear when you click the search button.

Click Advanced Search or Revise Search to display additional process search options.

The following optional search criteria are available. Each criterion that you specify is combined using AND logic.

Search Criteria Instructions
Process Name Type a name of a process, or the beginning of the process name that you are searching for.
Process Initiator Select the user name of the person who started the process.
Started After Select the earliest starting date for processes that appear in search results.
Started Before Select the latest starting date for for processes that appear in search results.
Process Model Only process instances launched from the designated process model are returned as search results.

Search Report

The All process models report is used to display the search results. You can upload a new version of this report if you need to modify the way that your search results are derived.


The left navigation lists a number of different views of your processes and process models.

Click an item in the (collapsible) Processes group in the left navigation to display one of the following process reports.

Active Processes
All active processes that you have sufficient rights to view are displayed in this report.
All Processes
All processes that have been started are displayed. This includes processes that are active, processes that have been completed, and processes that have been canceled.
Canceled Processes
All canceled processes are displayed.
Completed Processes
All processes that are completed are displayed.
Favorite Processes
All processes that have been selected as a favorite by the currently logged in user are displayed.
Paused Processes
All processes that have been paused are displayed.
Processes Started by Me
All processes started by the currently logged in user are displayed.
Processes with Problems
All processes started by the currently logged in user that have encountered process execution exceptions are displayed.
Sub-processes per process
All sub-processes that have been started by the given process are displayed.

Process Filters

The displayed processes can filtered by time period.

  • In the report toolbar, select Filters.
  • The Started: filter is displayed.

    Click the Started: list to select one of the following start-time filters.

Filter Name Available Options
  • Any Time (Default Option)
  • Today
  • Last 7 days
  • Last 30 days
  • Last 365 days

Custom Process Views

  • Additional process views can be created by saving a copying of an existing process report/view and making further changes to it.
  • Avoid saving changes to the current view. If you do, the report is saved using the current user's language preference. Users then view the report in that language only.
  • Once a new process view is created, it can be saved anywhere in Document Management. Such views can be shared with other users and groups.
  • For a custom process view to appear in the Processes group in the left navigation, it must be saved in the My Process Views folder, which resides in the My Private Knowledge Center under the Personal and Teams community.

Process Models

In the left navigation, the (collapsible) process models section includes the following options.

Launch Process Modeler
Click this option to open the Process Modeler from which you can create new process models, edit existing process models, and start processes for debugging.
Process Model Folders
Appian Process has two levels of security for process models, one for the folder in which the process model resides, and another for the process model itself.
  • Select a process model folder to display the process models it contains.
  • All users logged into the Application Designer have a private folder entitled My Models, which cannot be shared with other users in the system.
  • Users can view all process models to which they have folder access and process model access.
  • Selecting a process model displays all active process instances of the selected model being. Select a process to display its Process Details.

Process Actions

  • In the left navigation select a report that display the desired processes.
  • Each process listed also lists an associated checkbox.
  • Select the checkbox next to a process to display the following options in the toolbar.

Delete this process
Delete the selected process
Pause this process
Pause the selected process.
Cancel this process

Cancel the selected process.

  • Canceling a process also cancels all tasks associated with the process.
  • Once a process is canceled, it cannot be resumed.
Edit process
This option allows users to make run-time changes to a process model. See: Edit Process
Monitor process
This option allows users to make execution-time adjustments to the selected process. See: Monitor Process
Change priority
This option allows users to change the priority of the selected process.
Set security
This option allows users to configure the security for the selected process. Process security can either be configured separately for the selected process or it can be inherited from the process model.
  • When you select checkboxes for multiple processes, the only toolbar options displayed are: Delete, Pause, Cancel, and Change Priority. Bulk operations cannot be performed with other toolbar options.
