Start Event

A Start Event node denotes the beginning of a process in a process model, and is used to configure how a process is launched. A new Process Modeler Canvas always contains a Start Event and an End Event. (For Quick Tasks, any nodes that do not have an incoming flow are automatically triggered when the process is started.)

  • A Start Event is only activated in the latest published version of the process model.
  • Updated Start Events cannot be used to start processes in previous versions of a process model.
  • The system only allows you to use one Start Event per process model.
  • Adding triggers changes the appearance of a Start Event.

Configuring a Start Event

  • Right-click a Start Event on the designer canvas.
  • Select Properties. — or —
  • Double-click a Start Event on the Canvas. The Configure Start Event dialog box is displayed.
  • Click the General tab.
  • Enter a new name for the node, by typing it in the Name field.
  • If the process is chained (to enable rapid completion of multiple node inputs) you can click the Allow users to step back to the start node option to give users greater flexibility in completing the workflow.
  • Click the Triggers tab.
  • Select the Receive Message Event or Timer buttons on the toolbar to add triggers to your Start Event.
  • For a Receive Message trigger on a Start Event, process security restrictions may prevent the trigger from firing unless:
    • The process model properties where the event is received has Public Events enabled.
    • The user account used to run the process or process flow event that sends the message has sufficient user rights.

Viewing Start Event Triggers

  • Right click the Start Event and select Triggers > Setup. The Configure Start Event dialog box is displayed.
